This is one of the best cultivation novel I have read. The cultivation system is complicated and fascinating while the world has its own darkness that makes the story a bit difficult to read. Thankfully, MC is quite exemplar that keep that darkness at bay as a ray of light even though he isn't a saint. His hands are dirty and he doesn't deny it. I love the fact that he started as a warrior but ended up as an alchemist thanks to some events. He didn't give up his 'warrior' path which became so astonishing that people can describe it with a simple 'impossible'.
He is a genius alchemist that uses his subordinates to deal with his problem ('I supply them with resources so that they could deal with my problems' is his ideology). It is entertaining to read what kind of mess he made with his cultivation which couldn't be explained with common sense even by the top of his world/universe etc.
Though, he tries to keep a certain distance from the opposite gender as he carries some burdens. Our lovely crane holds a special place in his guarded heart even to the point that he instinctively protects it while risking his life. His harem is a bit different that we know of, as they are connected by benefits and advantages. He doesn't 'love' them but he appreciates their talents and beauty so he supports them and assists them to reach new heights. His policy is that he doesn't need a beautiful decorative vase but a woman that could stand on her feet and is worthy of his resources. He won't accept a non-virgin as wife/concubine but as lover, it's fine (A value that stuck him from his family).
He would have multiple one-night-stands but no real connection. His relationships began in more a pragmatic way before emotions so it sits bad with people but he isn't ready to deeply connect with someone because of the burdens he holds. Although there are hints that some things are changing.
His path is fascinating and constantly causes storms as he steps over different types of 'heroes' and 'legends'.

I feel Volume 6 start is very slow, almost 8 chapters in and the story is focused on only a single action of how Bai Lin ended up like that.
