Lu Jiangxian died after staying up late one night. Yet, he finds his soul trapped in a fractured, bluish-gray bronze mirror. He falls into a boundless world of immortal cultivation and finds himself in the perilous landscape of Mount Dali.

There, a small family from a small village by Meiche River picked the mirror up and is bestowed with the ancient teachings of the immortal ways, heralding the dawn of a splendid new era.

A message from the Translator:

Heya, it’s Crow, the translator for The Mirror Legacy. I’m glad to have the opportunity to translate one of the top ten books on Qidian.

This is perhaps a different type of Xianxia novel that is quite unique in its own right. Instead of following a single main character through the story, there are no main characters in this novel, or maybe everyone is a main character. After all, the main focus of the novel is the characters rather than cultivation.

If I have to describe what this novel is like… then I’d say it’s a Sims 4 Legacy Challenge, but set in an eastern fantasy world. If you can find satisfaction in watching generations of a family building themselves up and enjoy books with good characters, then this is the novel for you.

The story progresses slowly in the beginning, making this a great read before your bedtime or on a lazy afternoon in the cafe with a cup of tea in your hand. (You may also need a tissue box for your tears, that’s all I’m going to say.)

The story starts with a guy named Lu Jiangxian who died after staying up till late to work. He transmigrated, not as a human but a mirror (a broken one at that)! Upon discovering that he could absorb the essence from moonlight and gain power from it, he decided to find ways to restore his mirror body and find out its origin.

He was later picked up by Li Xiangping, a teenager from a humble farming family that soon discovered that the mysterious artifact they found could turn mortals into immortals. With such a powerful artifact in their house, they feared that tragedy could befall their family. There was only one thing for them to do—become powerful to protect their secret and family! Collapse

I don't like how the retainers lose their agency and becomes loyal vassals for no reason at all. most of the time it happens too quickly to be realistic. My problem isn't the fact that they have loyal retainers but here that loyalty is gained through game like manner where if you conquer a city and become declared the mayor, you will automatically gain loyalty from everyone

Honestly one of the best novels I have ever read. Each character feels like they are alive. A power system so good that it seems comparable to lotm. The history evokes the same feeling as looking at ages agone in real life. Each plot point gets taken care of, every detail is used. And man, the schemes the people create in this novel makes you actually feel scared for the characters. The sad moments will certainly make you shed a tear.
    Overall 9.8/10
And if anyone wants more chs to read they can join the discord ( the tl here is on vol 6 while the discord has upto vol8)

Hello, can you recommend me some clan/kingdom‑building novels like this one?
It would be best if they had the same kind of tragedies as well.
I don’t like stories where everyone becomes immortal and the MC just carries the entire cast to the ending, or where the MC is too emotional

after catching up, I can confidently say that this matches up with LoTM in terms of lore and might honestly surpass it. its an incredibly well thought out series with many mysteries and deep interconnected characters that span thousands of years.
The power system is massive as well, with many ways of cultivation that have yet to be fully explored despite the amount of chapters, this is not to say that its bad, but just that even the cultivation system we follow, the Purple Mansion Golden Core Dao is so massive that we don't have enough time to even fully explore this one! not to mention the Modern Buddhist Daos, the Ancient Buddhist Daos, the Heavenborn Devil Dao, Spiritual Cultivation Dao and many more that likely haven't even been mentioned yet. from where Immortal Yingze went, and why the Moonlight Origin Mansion left the mortal world, its deep.
aside from the lore, the character, while not developed to the most they can, are still very good and are all at least a 7/10. They all have different personalities and consistent character arcs. they never stray out of character, and have fully fledged arcs. they aren't dumb and constantly scheme across decades and centuries. while not perfect, they are definitely amazing.
zooming out a bit more, there are tens of factions just within Yue State, including the Eastern and Southern Sea, that bumps the number up to at least 30ish, including Wu State, Xu State, and Zhao State, it goes above 50, reaching closer to a hundred as time passes. this isn't even including Yan State, the Western or Northern Sea, and the other Northern States we haven't learned about yet. and every single one of these factions, whether they are Sects, Gates, Temples, Clans etc, they all have developed enemies and dynamics with each other.

overall, its most definitely at least a 9/10 at this current moment.

brother are you even true to your name ? has your dao heart crumbled ?

MTL users are like what sword cultivators in novel are and yet.....

anyway the li clan used generational names so it starts with "Li" then "prefix of generation" which can either be male or female (xuan/jing ; yuan/qing ; xi/yue ....)then the actual name

One of the best Xianxia novels imo - something very refreshing seeing a world that doesn't revolve around a narrator or mc and where the risk of death of a favorite character is very real. The author does a great job in letting the reader sympathize with the main characters and you really feel the loss/injustice that accompanies some deaths. Cultivation pathway is unique - strength isn't based solely on realm and techniques/understanding of dao also makes a sizeable impact, but difference in realms are still enough so that jumping major realms is impossible. And MC's golden finger is extremely helpful but not overpowering or a focal point of the story. Powerful characters are portrayed very well as almost omnipotent to less powerful characters, and this effect doesn't fall off when the Li clan gets to that level of power as opposed to many other novels where powerful characters just appear lame or inadequate mentally when MC reaches their level. Schemes upon schemes are laid out, and seeing the Li clan rise to the point where they can participate and influence the schemers is extremely gratifying. MTL on ranobes is pretty good I'm caught up right now and the aura farming is going crazy.
