«Even if this universe is truly nothing more than a brutal bloody shadowy forest, we Cultivators will burn all that we have just to give off a single weak flickering spark in the darkness!»

«No matter how weak each spark is, how short-lived, how small… As long as the sparks flow unabated, then one day one of those sparks will light some tinder, and that tinder shall light some fallen branches, and those branches shall set ablaze each and every last tree of the forest!»

«In the end, even the smallest sparks will eventually set the shadowy forest ablaze, and illuminate the whole world!»

In a world teeming with cultivators, Li Yao, who makes his living collecting scrap metal, encounters the soul of a titan powerhouse from forty thousand years in the past. Collapse

I've read a bit of this, (currently around ~50ch) and to me, this reads and feels like a worse version of 'Oh my God! Earthlings are Insane!'.

Obviously the two are different; but if I tally up all their similar aspects and rate them, 'Oh my God!' would rank higher in my book than this would. The writing is better, the world-building is better, and I appreciate the MC and the characters around him a lot more- they're just more likable. I also find that world more interesting than this one, but that's just because I tend to just hate the 'ancient decrepit civilization' bs in xianxia novels when it's a central plot point.

Where as this, while it's still pretty good in comparison to some stuff I've read - gotta praise the translator, this book can not have been easy to translate, and the quality of it is just amazing - it's... kind of annoying to read? Chunky paragraphs, dense wording, etc. Which isn't typically a problem, but if you've read enough of these novels, it is because you practically already know what's going to happen in the next paragraph, so you have force yourself to not skim.

A great example of this is the Uni convention thing they have. The whole interaction with Ding Linglang is incredibly predictable and by-the-books, the entire convention is, and if it was all more condensed, it'd be much easier to read, whereas now it feels like wading through water. I wouldn't say the book is full of filler; just that book has too much in it, tries to do too much, and fills in 'gaps' between important paragraphs with MORE important paragraphs instead of giving the reader time to breathe.

'Oh my God' suffers from something similar, with the author constantly expounding on certain subjects, which is equally annoying, but Oh my God! has a better cast that helps alleviate from this problem.

I'd say this book is good- the comedy is half-decent, the characters are cool, the world built is interesting enough. But I can't see myself reading this for too long. As far as futuristic urban xianxias go, this is definitely one of the best from what I've read, but also way too same-y. It's unique aspects simply didn't hold up the book for me; whereas I imagine for most people, the book's interesting ideas would last long enough for them to get invested.

Another thing I'll mention is that while the book isn't nationalistic by any means, it does promote patriotism heavily; not really a bad thing, in situations like this (i.e, humans vs. basically everything) I find patriotism and what comes with it (dumb war camaraderie) to be a good draw.

Give it a shot if you like future cultivation shit.

For what it's worth I'd add that it's "only" kinda generic for the first 100-200 chapters and after that it honestly ends up having one of the most unique plots and universes I've seen in a cultivation novel, and I've read way too many of them for my own good lol. I can completely understand why someone reading it for the first time just might not get that far but if you push past a little boredom at the start you're in for a real treat IMO.

That's still 100 to 200 chapters, though, is the problem; and chapters that have no guarantee of getting better, even if I have a few assurances here and there. I'm better off reading manga or published fantasy novels over risking my time, I feel. Still, I'm happy you enjoy it!

I really wanted to read it. I tried to read. I got to 900ish. It’s a great story, well, written, interesting, love combining future and cultivators, BUT… I just feel like the author tries to do too much. It doesn’t flow well. It never really gets anywhere and when it does it takes way too long because there’s 30 different things the mc does in between. Everything’s good and I want to like it and finish it but the mc and author just doesn’t want to get the freaking job/story going.

Disappointing...... Such a great story.... Such great quotes.... Such great plots.... But alas...sigh.....Disappointing......if only this novel didn't concentrate on brain washing..... Cultivation.. What does it mean.... It means to be free.. Free from anything which we feel is restricting us.... Cultivate to be free and unfretted.... Cultivate to live for eternity... Cultivate to be able to do anything.... But yet... In this novel cultivators are nothing but police officers or soldiers... To save common pple... A cultivator has to die... Has to sacrifice himself.... If not... Evryone will look down on u... Your own family will kill u.... The entire society will judge u, condemn u and punish u.... Heh... What's the use of cultivation then... Better to live as a common man....

Well, at least existence of modern society based on common rules allows an existence of something more than 10000000000 years old stagnant wooden villages with no hope of progress of any kind and too cutthroat to consider any form of cooperation within the rulers. There is a great example of such "proper" cultivation planet in a 100 years travel arc, and contrast is not in it's favor.

Civilization is a virtue. Don't believe the propaganda of recalcitrant fossils, who's only expertise is in plundering of resources and senseless killing.

And there is a lot of such people here, especially if you go beyond the standard government patriotic pre-war propaganda at the beginning 300+ chapters that are shown from the bottom grunt level and reach the top brass that is making decisions - there are some very typical classical ruthless villains there.

So probably you gust haven't got to that part ? What chapter were you on ?

Honestly I don't remember, I read this novel long time ago, thought might as well read it again but this time idk why, when I got to the train incident and seeing pple look down on that guy just cause he didn't help save the pple and seeing all some quotes saying protecting pple is the job of a cultivator, I lost interest suddenly and stopped it right there.

That's like around 100+ chapter... you should read further. Plus from classical standpoint the original location is like a Orthodox sect that is very concerned with reputation, image and PR, but underneath is totally a classical cultivation world complex and morally dubious organisation.

There is much more to it and trust me - there is always someone sinister plot behind almost everything that happens,

That's until what I read right now, but long ago I remember him joining a school or sect and helping the laboratory build something cheaper which is usually costly. Oh I also remember him comming back from a battlefield and then his master takes him back to take revenge (I am doubtful if these happened in these novels).

                  1) University of engineering(cant remember exact name) (1 of 9 top universities on the planet)

                  2) Exo-suit - will be more important later

                  3) There are a few of them, more later when MC in no longer at a cannon fodder level power.

                  4) Master revenge part is a Nope- probably from some other novel.

And there are a lot more villains after obligatory school arc, the kind that you just want to reach thru monitor and hold them by the neck tightly-tightly until you feel better and no longer feel a pulse ))

The story is very good and in some chapters, I can even feel my blood boil but still the only thing I don't like is forcing morals and ethics onto cultivators.

What's wrong with selfishness? Selfishness cannot be good or bad, there is simply a degree to which you are selfish and what lengths you are willing to go to achieve your goals.
I don’t see any problems with the propaganda of selfishness, because the very essence of this propaganda is to live for oneself. Do you come into this world in order to live for the benefit of others?
There is nothing wrong with helping someone, as long as it does not harm me! Why should I care about the lives of people, even the entire city, more than my close friend or family?
Truly happy people are those who can be selfish with a clear conscience!
It’s just that all people’s egoism is different, and it is aimed at different things. Essentially, it’s doing what makes you happy, and what exactly makes you happy is to each their own.

For anyone who (like me) really likes this novel and is frustrated by the fact that the translation just abruptly stopped 3/4 of the way into the story I'd highly recommend checking it out on WNMTL, I ended up finishing it on there and it's super readable, being much closer to actual human translations than it is to other MTLs that I've read.

This novel was interesting. I loved the good nature of it, But there are twisted worldviews and subtle manipulation's hidden in it. It was interesting until i noticed that simply reading this novel manipulates the mind. It subtly changes your thought's on certain things and messes with your head. Alongside that there are also the ridiculous limitation's that the author put on this novel declaring them as ultimate truth's. It's ridiculous, and they don't shut up about it either.

Well what we experience through life shapes how we are, but if the novel is “manipulating” your thoughts then I think you’re just too gullible and easily influenced….

I`ve read about 200 chapters, the novel is not bad but it`s not the type of novel I like. The characters are so selfless and righteous that in the end it feels fake, like its all too good to be true. Also, it`s too focused on artifacts, weapons, ships and stuff, I like stories where the characters themselves are powerfull, not their equipment, epecially a cultivation story.
    Just my opinion.

there's just way too many novels in the world to read something you don't enjoy like, ~30 to ~50 chapters in.
