There was no light in the night, save for the sound of war drums and war cries.

The young man listened carefully, it was the sound of his heartbeat and the flow of his blood.

What lay hidden in the darkness ahead? Is it man, god or… a monster?

There was no such thing as the best road, because the journey beneath one’s feet is limitless! Collapse

An amazing novel, a well-designed world and lively characters. Anyone who is familiar with the author's previous work will see in this new novel, the style of writing RI (tense atmosphere throughout the arc and a grand ending) 5/5

    Alright. Just finished Book 1.
    Here are my quick thoughts.
Overall, I liked it. It's not my favorite book, but it was very interesting in it's own way. It often felt like a historical documentary, which is what the author was going for.
A very unique experience, I would say.
I look forward to the next book.

Here are my pros and cons.
    Pros:
    • The translation, editing, and language is fantastic. Reads like a dream.
    • The world setting is well thought out and believable. You can tell the author did a ton of fantasy/medieval research. Honestly, it's a great period peace.
    • The characters feel realistic and appropriate for the setting. No awkward or out of place dialogue.
    • The MC's powers are cool once he starts using them. I hope we see them get even cooler in the next book.

    Cons:
    • The MC is a frustrating edge lord sometimes. He whines about how evil and monsterous he is, but he's not. At all. He is an incredibly innocent and naive person, and maybe I could understand him if his powers had downsides, but they don't.
His powers already exist in the world, druids exist and can shapeshift. But he moans about being a monster for being able to do the same. It's literally no different. It's a real bad case of "Shinji, get in the f#cking robot." If you get me?
    • It can be a very tedious at times. Like, 15+ chapters spent on fashioning bows from lumber or trudging through an empty desert. This happens a lot.
    • At a certain point in the novel, you are forced to read through the novel again. But with a different character's perspective. Twice. Three reads in total.
    A bit much imo.
    • Not really a con, but I wish there was more excitement. More color. It can feel a bit gray and slow at times.

The first part of your "Con" was explained close to the ending of book 1 though and besides
which the author explained.... All in all I agree with everything you said

The ending was kind of a interesting twist... Got my heart beating.

This new work of Gu Zhen Ren is absolutely amazing. Unlike most web novels the story doesn't just explode in your face, it is slowly unveiled layer by layer from multiple perspectives and pasts of story's characters.

For those who are thinking of reading it, I would suggest you to try first 60 chapters before deciding further.

the reason there was no romance in reverend insanity is because the MC was set in that way in the plot. Here the MC is almost the exact opposite so there is no problem for a romantic plot and even enhances it

It still sucks for people that don't like romance. I honestly don't see why they got downvoted so much.
And the whole idea of a harem is completely stupid. I've never seen a good novel where the main character had a harem. They've always been okay at best.

The author still lives in hopes that the ban on the LN will be lifted but by going through his next work Infinite Bloodcore I suspect he'll be able come to the same mindset when he wrote this one.

Fang Yuan has a crystal clear understanding toward human hearts and acts in a highly determined and efficient manner to reach his selfish goal.

While the new main character is learning about human hearts and lives with an optimistic approach to build a Utopia.

It's a rand new perspective, the other side of the same coin.

bro, no offense, but what the actual f#ck is wrong with you? you say that you're disappointed with this book, but give absolutely NO context, then trash on this book saying it will be 'below average'. Kinda rude man. If you want some context for why the writing style has changed, read a note he made to his community (posted on reddit) https://www.reddit.com/r/ReverendInsanity/comments/kbl9ve/a_note_from_gu_zhen_ren/
