The royal bastard of House Vasquer, Argrave, has changed after his stay studying magic at the Tower of the Gray Owl. The sickly man’s awkward posture and cruel behavior have been replaced with a neat dignity and acerbic wit. His listless life has found a path of undeniable purpose. Most come away thinking he seems to know too many details about too much. Few can claim to know his motives or his goals.

Behind the scenes, though, the primary contributor for an open-world RPG’s wiki battles existential dread and things far beyond his ken as he struggles to adapt to a grim, gothic fantasy world that he had the misfortune to claim as his favorite game. This is his tale.

#####What to expect from this story#####

This piece is a high-fantasy style story, featuring many of the species and surroundings one might expect to find in such a world. The cultures are original and well-developed, with the primary setting being a European-style feudal society. Warfare, fell beasts, and natural disasters are commonplace in Berendar, and take the center of many plots. The protagonist is a smooth-talker, but the world does not exist for him; he must struggle to gain power.

This one has potential. We will see what the future holds. It's a dialogue driven story telling, but it's done well enough and seems natural. A lot of the lore and story direction is told through dialogue.

My only complaint is that the characters have similar speech patterns except maybe 3 or 4 ppl.

You COULD attribute this to the story setting, but if it's based on a game world, Developers usually recognize the importance of having unique characteristics (i.e. strong silent/cute bubby/suave charming/ditzy airhead/ loveable idiot/ etc).

Hopefully this changes as the story progresses.

that is very rude of you, considering that alot of novels here have even more broken english.

and seriously, you should be thankful that he even tried to communicate in what I assume 2nd or 3rd language for him. Its people like you who are actually ignorant enough that make others view whole groups of people by stereotypes.

I'd say the problem was that he made fun of him instead of asking him to rephrase it better. And I don't mean to belittle you by any means but dude knowing a second language is no great feat. Infact English is my second language. I'm just saying that as much as that guy was being sarcastic it really shouldn't be that great of a deal.

I was commenting on this. Instead of supporting the dude trying to communicate in English even if it was broken he was saying for the dude to stop and speak his own ? ..

But I guess if what he was after was for the person to actually rephrase it, he should have worded it differently. Currently all I understand from whole exchange is that the dude was bigoted and very rude to who might have just started learning English and trying it out in communication.

Also about second language not hard, Tell that to majority of Americans who do not know 2nd language. I myself speak English as a second language and yes it came to me fairly easily so I know what you mean that its not difficult.

well it was the first thing I remembered as a did you know fact.. its kind of a running joke that they have difficulties with 2nd language (not talking about those that actually have multi lingual families)

                  talking about real 'muricans

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 20 percent of Americans can converse in two or more languages, compared with 56 percent of Europeans. Experts estimate about half of the human race is bilingual, at least.

I have been reading this novel up to chapter 74 and its very similar to 'Trash of the Count's Family' they even have the same character list more or less.
    Cale Henituse- Argrave Vasquer
    Choi Han- Galamon
    Rosalyn- Anneliese
    Eruhaben- Rowe
    Raon- None
    ...

There a-lot more politics and dialogue for those looking for action, after the invasion of the elves arc the action is mostly related to dungeons were he collects items to fix his constitution its quite good. The lore and world building is pretty great the backstory looks interesting.

Its very funny read the dialogue however after sometime you may or may not enjoy it because Argrave
makes references to things no one around knows.

The characters are not 1 dimensional they personalities and aren't just accessories. However a I personally cant really get on board with the drive of Argrave Vasquer he has no end goal after the disaster, why he going around trying to stop destruction, it done because its is duty and he might die other than somewhat unrealistic interactions its quite good. 5/5

It's only similar at the beginning as you read it you will start noticing differences and later it becomes something completely different. and there is no dragon equivalent for the black dragon.
I think the characters have similarities in motivation. I feel Argrave is more active in dealing with problems and fighting and the party dynamic exists like DnD party between Galamon, Argeave and Anneliese. That may be because the setting is a Game instead of a novel.
Choi Han and Galamon have similarities, but he is more like Geralt of rivia from witcher, and Rosalyn- Anneliese are different you will notice this after a few more chaps. Argrave is more like chandler avoids hard personal topics with funny banter because of his imposta syndrome. were Cale is a more calm and dignified kind of guy outwardly.

I have not read much of this and am going through the initial chapters, but was surprised to notice that I was reading every word.

Not just skimming through it, but slowly reading every thing.

It is a nice change of pace after reading wuxia and other cultivation novels.

Came here for an action packed novel? If yes, you may go back.
To be fair, there are action scenes but it the novel is more about politics and is filled with conversations.
    Its a 7/10 for me.
