I'm on chapter 400, it's a good novel, it has a lot of mystery and plot twists, the protagonist is good, he's a bit "dumb" at the beginning, but he gets better later.

This novel sells a seductive promise: infinite retries, infinite correction, infinite cultivation but what it actually delivers is something narrower...and whether that works depends entirely on your tolerance for author-controlled suffering.

The core idea is fun. A protagonist who can rewind time through death should, in theory, become a long-term planner, a patient schemer, someone who leverages distance and preparation rather than brute desperation. That’s not how this story chooses to operate.

Here, the rewind points are rigid. The author decides where the save point lands, and more often than not, it’s just minutes before death. The result is a repeated pattern of crisis → death → scramble → narrow survival. Instead of learning to avoid disasters, the MC is forced to solve the same burning room with slightly different hand motions.

That design choice is intentional.....but it’s also limiting.

If you were hoping for a rewind mechanic that meaningfully differentiates this from standard cultivation novels, you may be disappointed. Dying and replaying a single chapter’s worth of events does not fundamentally change the experience when the solutions still rely on last-second breakthroughs and conveniently placed lifelines.

That said...this is not a trash novel.

Early on, the MC appears foolish, but much of that comes from genuine lack of information rather than incompetence. After the Outer Sect Disaster arc, the tone shifts noticeably. The MC becomes more decisive, more calculating, and finally starts to resemble what readers expect from someone gifted with infinite retries. At that point, the novel becomes far more engaging, and the scheming gains weight.

So this is a story with a strong idea, a divisive execution, and a clear improvement curve.

If you wanted: long-range planning, meaningful rewind freedom, a fundamentally different approach to cultivation progression-
then this may feel like a gimmick constrained by its own author.

Not revolutionary.
Not incompetent.
Just a very specific flavor of reincarnation story that knows what it wants to do...even if not everyone will like the taste.

Actually a great novel I have read till current raw(774) I will recommend it, tho I will tell you about many good and bad part of this novel(Minor spoiler ahead)
Good part :-
1:- As story progress character actually become very good, Li Haoran, Sword Immortal, CaiYun are top tier characters.
2:- Main cast are not forgotten, many characters will come back.
3:- very good story, each arc and each characters make this story extremely good.
Bad Part:-
1:- Starting MC suddenly become arrogant young master, it get better but you might not like his character.
2:- First big time skip (around chapter 60) is horrible, a good run ended without any info and some plot added that doesn't quite make sense.
3:- many repeated paragraphs, author many times explain same thing 2-3 times and it's just add word count.
Gray area
1:- There are many side story added in middle of chapters, showing why some characters act the way they do, even small characters that doesn't have much screen time got their own life story. This can be seen as world building or just extra word count increase by author.

Over all even tho I will say there are many bad things about novel the story itself is very good if you can survive starting and can ignore some of author word count increase paragraphs.
