The Age of Mechs has arrived! Unfortunately, Ves Larkinson lacked the genetic aptitude to become a famed mech pilot. Fighting against his fate, he studied mech design in order to express his love for mechs in a different way and make his father proud.

When Ves graduated from college, he returned to a new but empty boutique. His dad had disappeared. Left with a small, newly founded mech workshop… Collapse

I'm surprised you're still reading this. Anyways I don't think they've given a clear answer for this. My speculation is that because the Lavere scale exists and nothing equivalent is present for mech designers, high-ranking pilots are generally divided into several sections (low, mid, high, peak) within the same rank and there's a world of difference in power between low and peak, especially at the ace level.

You could consider seniors to be preparatory masters while high/peak-tier expert pilots are preparatory aces. The difference in rank could also have something to do with the breakthrough conditions. Mech designers' breakthrough conditions are a lot clearer compared to the conditions for high-ranking pilots.

Correct, but that is not the answer.

            Cultivation here is divided into:

            1. Mortal Stage = Mech Pilots and Apprentice Mech Designers
            2. Foundation Building Stage = Expert Pilots(1 to 67 laveres) and Journeyman+Senior Mech Designers
            3. Domain Stage = Ace Pilots(100-1000 laveres) and Master Mech Designers
            4. True God Stage = God Pilots and Star Designers
            5. God King Stage = God King? Pilots and their mech designer equivalent.
            6. Unknown Stage = Unknown named pilots and corresponding mech designers have not even been discussed at this points in time.

Pretty good novel but I'm dropping it at chapter 370.
The book has a good premise and the mc starts off as an intelligent and determined man. The way the mechs and combat are described is detailed and interesting, especially the authors use of different perspectives to show not just the MC's more complex view of his products.
The Worldbuilding is pretty solid and other characters are mostly interesting.
Chapters are also a good length!

Unfortunately there have been more and more things that have been annoying me about the MC as he seems to have become more and more passive as the novel goes on. Where he should be far ahead and proactive he just let's things happen to him (e.g.
). This wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't supposedly broken the human limits for intelligence. There are a lot of small inconsistencies that have slowly annoyed me to the point where I'm dropping the novel.

Overall it's a pretty good story with an interesting plot but an MC who's slowly becoming more and more useless. Overall rating imo 6.8/10

The MC just has his ups and downs. Sometimes he's incredibly dominant and other times he has no choice but to be passive. You're actually coming up to the Bright-Vesia War Arc that encompasses chapters 300-1000ish and is widely considered one of the worst ones because of how passive the MC has to be since he's been drafted into war. It's only after 2000 where he establishes his own faction.

Aside from that I guess I'll talk about some of your complaints. The fact that Ves has broken human limits isn't actually that impressive. Augmentation and parameters beyond the capabilities of base humans is almost ubiquitous across human space that are outside of 3rd rate states. Also about Lucky

Anyways it's a shame you're dropped this story since I think it gets better and more amazing the longer you read. However these annoying elements that make you stop reading is prevalent throughout the entire story.

It goes on till ch 1000? Also at no point did he even consider not being drafted, even tho there is no reason not to, like he could very well just join a different empire for example and stay in this one(like a higher tier one, how would that be a problem if he has a master (at this point) as his master and is quite rich) being drafted and not even thinking about doing anything about it is the problem

if anyone wants to read this novel then pls dont cause this novel is ridden with a very big problem and that is ves larkinson who happens to be a delightful mc. I swear i have never ever seen a mc such as him, he literally lets everyone except his subordinates walk all over him especially other females and is the greatest pushover ever, the author is either a woman or a man with an fantasy about getting pegged and has mommy issues and someone literally asked his gf if he can have sex with her and he just says nothing and continues as if nothing happened... this is the most masochistic and submissive mc i have ever seen

Well this is an absurd amount of hyperbole. While I admit that both the MC and the author have a thing for dominant women and the MC most definitely has mommy issues even if he doesn't admit it, calling him the most masochistic and submissive MC ever is just ridiculous. It's just like any other story where sometimes the MC gets walked on all over (usually by far more powerful entities) and other times he's walking all over someone else.

The two biggest reasons that most people probably end up dropping this story is the war arc at 400-1000 chapters and the appearance of Gloriana. I'm going to assume it's the latter that's made you react this way. If you're still willing to keep reading I do recommend trying to get up to 2400. By that point Ves has formed his own faction and you would've gone through the Nyxian Gap arc.

The fact that you think what you've said isn't hyperbole really just shows that you're overly sensitive and lack self-awareness. You're not even reading NTR for crying out loud.

I'll reiterate that Ves is an MC that experiences both ups and downs. Sometimes he has to submit to others and sometimes he's the dominant one where others have to kneel before him instead. I've read over 6000 chapters and it's pretty common for the MC to initially submit to more powerful opponents and end up turning the tablets and being in the dominant position in the end.

Define 'better' as that's a bit vague. Ves is definitely an anti-hero with obvious flaws and his journey has many ups and downs. It's also well-known that the author has a thing for dominant women and that shows in the story so make of that what you will.

I’m on chapter 1000+ and damn this one is a slow burner how in the world are these states alive sorry but if you ever look at a war torn country that can’t stop fighting and how they say the war is so bad there is no way these countries don’t end up like Germany in WW2 out of resources people and spirit. Simply put these states can only function in a fantasy (a book) still annoys me put the spoiler here just in case you’ve not read about the war arc

Well, you have to be aware these states comprise of many planets and solar systems. They won't be lacking in resources even with regular wars. Also mech pilots only comprise of 3% of the population due to genetic aptitude so there's a hard limit on the amount of troops.

Anyways good luck reading the story. It only gets bigger and better the longer you read.

Although I can’t say for certain how it plays out in real life or even in the novel, having more resources would only really help(regarding sustainablity) if either (1) you couldn’t fully utilize all of them, or (2) your enemies had significantly fewer resources. In the context of intergalactic wars, they would likely take much longer overall, yet feel shorter relative to their massive scale. Even if you're not literally burning through planet-sized quantities of resources or outright destroying them, the consumption rates would still be insane. The only way such a conflict could sustain itself is if the warring factions were holding back significantly.
Funnily enough, our best guesses for how intergalactic wars would play out in real life are shaped largely by what happens at the very beginning. It’s highly likely that the first to strike would hold a decisive advantage, perhaps even securing outright victory, as such advanced civilizations would likely possess weapons capable of effortlessly destroying entire planets. With such overwhelming power, these conflicts might not be prolonged wars of attrition but rather swift and catastrophic events, decided in moments.

Interestingly, the sheer destructive capability of these civilizations could lead to a paradox: the more powerful their weapons, the less likely they are to engage in open war. Knowing that any conflict could result in mutually assured destruction might push factions to focus on alternative strategies. Instead of outright battles, wars could take the form of technological sabotage, economic manipulation, or covert operations, where the goal is to gain an edge without provoking total annihilation. (Quite similar to what we have nowadays)

In this sense, intergalactic wars might look less like epic space battles and more like a high-stakes game of chess, fought across the vastness of the cosmos. Whether through preemptive strikes or shadowy maneuvering, the survival of entire civilizations could hinge on strategy, timing, and restraint.
Which is a complete contrast imo to what most scfi pictures them as.

Number 1 is pretty much the case in the story as a large part of using mechs is to de-escalate conflicts. There are also organizations that overlook the entirety of humanity and have banned destructive actions that'd destroy a planet. The most powerful organizations generally have smaller conflicts and skirmishes like you've mentioned, both seen and unseen to the public. Even between completely hostile entities there is a measure of restraint as overally destructive behaviours will simply reduce the rewards gained after the end of the conflicts.

Another thing to consider is that a running theme throughout the story involves using wars as a method to invigorate a species and unleash their full potential. More often than not these aren't real wars in the truest sense where one party seeks to completely destroy the other. Of course if there's a massive disparity in power between 2 entities, it's a given the weaker side will have to give significantly more or be straight up annexed.

There can only be total destruction if one state is significantly more powerful than the other and thats why in this novel they are divided into tiers of sorts, their weapons are restricted heavily and even tech used is restricted. to top it all the people in charge are basically doing a massive human experiment to yield and train as many ace mech pilots and designers as possible using these wars thats to say they will always appear to be fighting but will not exterminate the enemy states. basically if any state can still be completely defeated with such restrictions in place.... it doesnt deserve to be a state.

It's definitely a book worth reading. It only gets better and more epic the longer you read.

As for how a story can last for 6000+ chapters, it's because it details an epic adventure spanning the universe where the MC starts from humble beginnings and continuously rises up the ladder towards the top. It's actually quite easy to divide the story in 1000 chapter chunks since quite often a major shift in the story occurs at those points.

1-1000 is the start of his career and largely shapes the personality he has in the future
1000-2000 MC has become a more mature mech designer and businessman at this point
2000-3000 the beginnings of MC's own faction
3000-4000 more adventures in a new location
4000-5000 MC and faction obtains astounding success
5000-6000 major plot twist that is a prelude to more
6000+ centers around the biggest war in the story yet

Tried not to spoil anything while still showing a clear overview of the story so far. The author mentioned he wanted the story to be at least 10,000 chapters long and it's kind of easy to see how he'd achieve that.

Wow, that was way more detailed than I expected. It's cool to break it down like that. The thing with fat novels is, when I try to binge-read them, I just get tired of it at some point. So, what I do is read a few chapters and then switch to another book. I think that works for me. It might take a while to catch up, but I don't mind that.

the beauty of this book is that author is familiar with all cultivation tropes and the world setting suddenly changes to xianxia after 5000+ chapter but author coverts xianxia elements into sci-fi.
the only problem is that MC gains too much power for plot reason, if you look it from no of chapters perspective it's slow but in the timeline of story his growth is super fast and gain random boosts all the time, in retrospective for comparison he grows from ordinary rock sharper in a small illiterate tribe in Somalia to Vice Director of fictional United Nations Government with real power and authority while at the same time becoming weapons manufacturer in France.

I don't think it's too unusual. Using your analogy, imagine if that rock sharper(?) had a home remedy that cured cancer. Ves all the way at the beginning as an Apprentice had the miraculous ability to create souls from almost nothing. This uniqueness as well as his System is what allowed him to have such an enormous advantage compared to everyone else.
