The Age of Mechs has arrived! Unfortunately, Ves Larkinson lacked the genetic aptitude to become a famed mech pilot. Fighting against his fate, he studied mech design in order to express his love for mechs in a different way and make his father proud.

When Ves graduated from college, he returned to a new but empty boutique. His dad had disappeared. Left with a small, newly founded mech workshop… Collapse

Honestly could we get this exact novel just cut out all the mech and have starship designer system?

    That novel would be nice

Ps can't wait untill they legalize weaponry on starships the CFA is cooler then MTA

Reviewing at chapter 3088 or so. I give it a 2.4/5.
First off, it’s way too damn long. Most stories don’t break past 3000 chapters and are much better than this one. At the time of me writing this, the novel has 4000, and the author has stated he wants to go for 10,000. From what I can see, it’s mainly for 3 reasons.
    1. There are too many side quests. The story starts off pretty nicely. You think it’s just a weak to OP system story but centering on Mech design. But then there’s war, politics, romance, and dozens of other things that the mc originally never wanted to get into. This leads to increasingly longer buildups and much shorter payoffs.
    2. There are too many explanations. The author acts like his readers are idiots. He loves to overexplain and oftentimes, good character dialogue is sacrificed for giving information that was already well established hundreds of chapters ago. I remember one time the author wrote a gag about the mc unwittingly eating human flesh and then spent a third of a chapter explaining why his gag made sense.
    3. There is too much filler. It’s not apparent at first but later, there’ll be paragraphs devoted to asinine things like Ves’ cat playing with another cat or like the gag I talked about earlier. It doesn’t advance the story whatsoever.

Also, the MC sucks. At the start, he’s weak-willed, incompetent and naive. As time goes on, he becomes paranoid, contradictory and incredibly selfish(sometimes he’ll be just as much of a pussy as he was in the beginning). His character development from point A to point B is believable and I think he’s a realistic and well written character but damn is he unlikable.

The side characters are all pretty cool. None of them are really good but they all contribute to the story.

The romance sucks. It’s as forced as can be and while it was funny at first, it steadily grows more annoying. I never found it intolerable but I can understand why people hate the FMC enough to drop the book.

The plot is frustrating. Sometimes it’s great and I’m invested. Other times, it’s incredibly drawn out, repetitive and boring. A couple times it’s neither, but I want to take a look inside the author’s head to find out why he wrote this plotline. Just due to the pacing of the novel, it’s more often the latter two than the former.

The best thing about this novel is how expansive it is(though that’s a given with how long it is). It’s kinda like one piece with how many adventures there are. There are truly hundreds of possibilities as the story becomes less about Mech design and more about the mc’s general growth. But even that is kinda botched because oftentimes the author will state something the mc could do and then it’ll be impractical or the mc would object because “it’s not right for him.” Still, it’s fun to see other readers theorize(this novel has a pretty active fandom on this site).

The book is good but the quality steadily declines to a point where at its lower points, it’s genuinely a struggle to actually keep reading and not just skim. At its higher points, it’s a true pleasure to read though.

I personally deeply disliked how he mocked religious people and countries considering his pathetic relationship with republic and his mech design system.

Haven't read this, but I've got something:

Step 1: "Why are all the good novels so short?"

Step 2: "Why are all the novels so long? I'm too lazy to read"

Step 3: "Why can't I find any good novels that are long enough to keep me reading for a long time?"

Step 4: "Oh, that's why. I don't read long novels-"
