lmao the author tried to write something deep and melancholic about mortality and the human condition, and then, suddenly, his eyes flickered, and he took a huge steaming shit right in the middle

it's like watching a car crash in slow motion. every chapter is a little more bloody

Guys i have an idea for a novel.

Imagine a cultivation world, where good karma makes your cultivation grow and bad karma reduces it. Hence every person who wants to cultivate will try to sow good karma by helping others.

The evil thoughts doesnt count as karma so only any actions is judged. Hence even if they are selfieh assholes, if they do good stuff they will get their cultivation.

Each time someone helps you, your potential for cultivation reduces by a bit. Hence our mc needs to make sure that he none helps him along the way, all his problems are trying to escaping from overly kind young masters, or super powerful characters who may try to forcefully help him.

There can be world building like where each powerful cultivator has a city of mortals under him who are facilitated to live the best life they can. They create utopian cities to harvest the good karma. This grows as the city grows. There can also be the usual troupe of violent monsters, but they cant kill them so they try to capture them and treat them with care so as to tame them and set them free in a enclosed forest, like a biosphere.

Murder can be done at the expense of cultivation, but again overwhelming good deeds can be done to get back the cultivation. The amount of cultivation lost, depends on factors like the amount of good karma the victim had, their potential, etc.

Nah it’s boring. Literally one of the reasons people read cultivation novel is to watch them fight. I have a read a novel which was almost similar to your idea. In it cultivation depended on the mastery of daily tasks, like education and stuff like that. It was boring as hell.

Premise itself is contradictory. If you gain cultivation by doing good deeds and lose cultivation by doing bad deeds, and everytime you help someone they lose potential, you could very likely be doing a bad deed from their perspective —> it is impossible to gain cultivation

While your perspective is valid, there's also the perspective that hindering my potential, even if with good intentions, might not always be favorable. The concept of 'good actions' should ideally involve mutual agreement—where helping each other brings happiness to both parties. However, the complexity arises when my well-being is compromised in the process, leading to varied interpretations.

An intriguing proposal emerges: forming a league of villains. These could be ancestors unable to ascend in cultivation, culminating in a collective of malevolent individuals. These villains would engage in acts of destruction—dam demolitions, unleashing monstrous hordes, and causing havoc in cities. This might stem from their own frustrations. Additionally, the notion that even mentally fractured individuals might yearn for apocalyptic ends adds a layer of complexity to this narrative.

Your initial concept of karma-based cultivation adds depth to the world. The idea that cultivating power is influenced by good karma resonates well. I find the thought of powerful cultivators overseeing mortal cities, nurturing them to flourish, particularly engaging. The practice of capturing and taming violent monsters, rather than annihilating them, in enclosed forest environments brings a unique dynamic to this universe.

Lastly, your point about murder and its impact on cultivation is thought-provoking. The intricate calculation of cultivation loss based on factors such as the victim's good karma and potential contributes to the depth of this world. This interplay between karma, power, and morality offers an intricate canvas for your novel's development

This was fantastic until everything in the story totally changed a couple hundred chapters in. At the start, MC is making use of his immortality ability to slowly scrape by with awful talent and extremely limited resources. That only lasts until the Blackrock Ruins or whatever arc starts.

Then MC suddenly rapidly starts getting all the most amazing cultivation techniques in existence, gets his talent upgraded to top supergenius level, gets a god-tier magical tree and runes implanted into his body, and so on. It might as well be a completely new webnovel after all that.

It might still be an interesting story after all the changes, but we'll never know, because the 50 or so most recent chapters as I write this have been one single fight scene. Literally ONE goddamn fight scene has lasted for 40+ chapters. You get tons of conversations, mid-fight banter, crowd commentary, trivia about the people and sects involved, assorted miscellaneous bullshit, and about 1% actual fighting.

The first 150-200 chapters are 5 stars easily. For the recent ones, even 1 star feels generous. If we find out one day that a new, ultra-terrible author took over after the original author died, I won't be surprised. Skip this trash.

Agreed. Blackrock ruin arc made me dropped the novel, it was just ridiculous shift in story that made no sense.

ps: #newly_learner# i'd say give it a try until that point the story was decent and it'll atleast work as a filler until you find a good story.

I lost complete interest arround 250, as someone said in a previous review (including raws) this is story is about only one guy if you expect decent side characters or world building outside of the basics you are going to be disapointed.
But why i stayed until 250, because the entire first arc is the stablishment of his character and what it drive him, his moral compass which is interesting enough even if i kinda dislike him, after that its stale at best sadly and i just dont expect too much about the future.

same, the last few arc feels pointless, there is no fun reading and everything too shallow. I also dropped around 260, might come and skim after a few months to see if the quality improves later.
